About Artist
I work primarily with oil, acrylic, and mixed media on canvas and wood. My background in photography and sculpture also informs my artistic approach. My work reflects my diverse experiences with different cultures, with each piece embodying a memory, personal story, or profound message.
One of the most intriguing subjects in my work is a series featuring the fowl chicken. I used palette knife acrylics with gel gloss, creating vivid textures and depth. The bright colors of these birds evoke memories of my childhood, festivals, folklore, bird fights, and celebrations, each holding varied meanings across different cultures.
My inspiration for this series came from the stunning collection of ornamental birds bred and nurtured by my nephew. These beautiful, imported birds include breeds such as the Wyandotte, Rose Comb, Brahma, Polish, and Thuringian Bearded Chicken. Photographing and painting them was a joyful experience.
Another series focuses on my life in Queens, New York, including paintings like “Gloria Pizza,” which celebrates the iconic New York pizza, “Snow Squall,” capturing a winter scene, and “RTA E Train,” depicting a familiar urban transit experience.
The third series is educational, aimed at promoting optimal physical and mental health. A notable piece, “Prevent Colon Cancer,” is a large oil paintingshowcasing meticulous attention to detail.
Through my nostalgic and evocative artwork, I aim to capture the contrasts between rural life in India and the ultra-urban environment of New York City. My paintings utilize striking colors and compositions to create vivid and engaging stories.
Art has always captivated me. As a self-taught Indian American artist, I have been creating art for the past four years, using it as a means to escape the stresses of daily life and express my emotions.
Born to an agriculturist in India, I grew up immersed in nature, spending time with cattle, farms, and local communities. This experience deeply shaped my connection to the natural world. .
I come from a family of talented women and received numerous awards for my art as a child, primarily in watercolor and oil. My mother also taught me various crafts, including applique work, tatting, and hand embroidery. .
My journey took a significant turn with the demanding nature of medical school and a move to the U.S., which introduced a range of professional and personal experiences. These changes have enriched my artistic perspective.
